The table displays data on variations in means of transport in England from 1985 to 2000.

Overall, it is apparent that average distance travelled by per person by all modes increased by 2000 and traveling by car was the most popular choice in the given time period.

People in England travelled an average total distance of 4,740 miles in 1985 but it later went up to 6,475 miles in 2000. However, distance travelled by walking was comparatively higher in 1985 at 255 miles to only 237 miles 2000. Likewise, travel by bicycle dropped from 51 to 41 miles in 2000.

Car was the primary way of traveling in all the years, and the miles climbed from 3,199 to 4,806 in 2000. Another dramatic rise was seen in travel via taxi which was 13 miles in 1985 but it increased by almost three times in 2000. Train was the third favorite mode of transport in 2000, amounting to 366 miles. On the contrary, popularity of local bus declined from 429 miles travelled in 1985 to 274 miles in 2000.
