IELTS Agree Disagree Essay

Example: Some people think that the Internet and television can teach better than classroom teaching. Do you agree or disagree?

  • If the question statement includes, “Do you agree or disagree with the given statement?”, then the essay comes under IELTS Agree Disagree Essay category. So, the candidate is expected to write either for (in favour) or against the given statement and write justification for that opinion. For example, in an answer to the given essay question, the candidate should write:
  • Two arguments to justify that the Internet and television can teach better (assuming agreement).
  • Another two arguments to justify that the Internet and television can teach better (assuming agreement).

To answer this type of question properly, follow the following format.

(Introduction)

Paraphrase the question  +   Mention if you agree or disagree

(Body Paragraph 1)

Agree(give reasons)

(Body Paragraph 2)

Agree(give more reasons)

(Conclusion)

Repeat agreement and give a summary of the arguments written in the body paragraphs

  • Besides this, there is another variation of this essay category, where the question includes, “to what extent do you agree or disagree”. In this category, the candidate needs to mention that how much they agree or disagree. This type of question can be handled in 3 ways:

  1. Completely agree – Write both the body paragraphs related to agreement.
  2. Completely disagree – Write both the body paragraphs related to disagreement.
  3. Partially agree – Write some points for disagreement and then, write some points of agreement.

Ø  It can be tricky to justify partial agreement, so it is recommended to go with complete agreement/disagreement.

Example: Some people think that the level of news in TV and newspaper is degrading day by day. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

In a sample answer to the given essay question, the candidate can write:

  • The level of news in TV and newspaper is degrading in some fields/news channels etc. (assuming partial agreement).
  • The level of news in TV and newspaper is not degrading in some other fields/news channels etc. (assuming partial agreement).

(Introduction)

Paraphrase the question  +   Mention complete or partial agreement

(Body Paragraph 1)

Agree(give reasons)

(Body Paragraph 2)

Agree and give more reasons (for complete agreement) |Disagree and give reasons(for partial agreement).

(Conclusion)

Solved example(IELTS Agree Disagree Essay )

Some people think that the Internet and television can teach better than classroom teaching. Do you agree or disagree?

It is considered by a number of individuals that studying is more effective if done through television and web based computerized systems instead of traditional learning methods. However, I firmly disapprove this belief as, according to me, the physical presence of teachers and other students brings more fruitful results.

To begin with, there is an array of reasons to believe that a human educator can be more beneficial than any virtual means of education. Firstly, teachers in formal education system are generally well qualified and well trained for teaching a particular subject, which enables them to use the most authentic resources for teaching. However, despite having enormous study material available online, one cannot rely on its authenticity. Secondly, doubt clearing is much easier and less time consuming in a classroom setting as a teacher is directly available for giving their instant feedback on the work done by students. Hence, such a setting is better and more time efficient gaining knowledge.

Moreover, there are additional benefits offered by physical classrooms over the electronic ones. Learning with several other pupils under the same roof instills various social skills in a human being. It not only makes one disciplined, but also imparts a lesson of being a good communicator due to the fact that a student has to coordinate and cooperate in a plethora of activities with their classmates. Similarly, such involvement with other learners also fosters knowledge sharing on several academic and non-academic fronts, which aids in widening the horizons of the participants. Whereas, electronic mediums fail to enhance such skills of the learners involved because of technological barriers.

To conclude, I would like to reiterate my opinion and say that teaching in a class is indeed more productive as it not only facilitates the most well researched information in less time, but also improves the soft skills and knowledge of an individual.
