IELTS Academic Writing: Percentage of national consumer expenditure on different items in five different countries in 2002.

The table below gives information on (percentage of national consumer expenditure) consumer spending on different items in five different countries in 2002.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

Answer 1:

The table represents percentage of consumer expenditure in three categories in five nations in 2002.

Overall, it is apparent that maximum spending was on food/drinks/tobacco, while the least consumer expenditure was in area of leisure/education.

Proportion of consumer expenditure on food/drink/tobacco was highest in Turkey, accounting to 32.14%  which was almost double to people spending in Sweden and Italy at 15.77% and 16.36%. Ireland was the second country to have 28.6% consumers spending on food/drinks and tobacco.

Italy had the greatest amount of spending on clothing/footwear at 9%, whereas it was least in Sweden at 5.40%. However, almost equal proportion of Italian and Spanish consumer’s spent on leisure/education. Turkey had 6.63% of spending on clothing/footwear, but it had the greatest expenditure on leisure/education at 4.35%. The expenditure on leisure/education was the lowest in Spain at 1.98%. Likewise, Ireland had small proportion of spending on leisure/education accounting to 2.21% and relatively higher expenditure on clothing/footwear at 6.43%.

The provided table represents information in percentages about national consumer expenditure in 2002. Generally edible items had more expenditure by the countries, whereas leisure and education had least expenditures.

As is observed from the given data, Turkey had 32.14% which is most of its consumer expenditure on food drinks and tobacco whereas it had least on leisure and education. Italy, Spain and Sweden had an almost similar percentage with minor difference for the consumer expenditure in 2002.

However, 9% of consumer expenditure on clothing and footwear walls observed from Italy, whereas Ireland, Spain and Turkey had expenditure around 6%. Furthermore, Spain had the minimum expenditure on leisure and education which was about 1.98%. All other countries had more than that.

Overall, food, drinks and tobacco were more expenditure items by Turkey, whereas leisure and education were least consumer expenditure  by Spain.
