Sample Answer:(spoke with someone in a foreign language)

Since I graduated, I have worked with a lot of companies. During my first job with an IT company in India, I got an opportunity to work in southern part of India. When I moved out there, I got a chance to talk to people who did not know Hindi and their native language was Tamil, so I had to learn a bit of their language in order to converse with them

To begin with, it was way back in 2008 when I moved to a Tamil speaking area of India. I could’ve talked to the people over there in English because they were very much fluent in English. But, I had a curiosity to learn a new language, so that is why I decided to learn a bit of their language, so that I felt comfortable and also to make them feel comfortable while talking to me. I made a lot of friends over there, so they were the first people, who taught me a bit of their language. It was difficult for them to teach me the complete language, so they taught me a few common words, phrases and sentences, which helped me in talking about day-to-day cores to the people over there.

In addition to the basic necessities which are required to be fulfilled through conversation, they also taught me few funny dialogues and funny words. Also, because my accent was not in any way equal to how native people talked, so whenever I spoke those dialogues and those words it was very funny for them. So, as I learned more and more of their language, I started making more and more friends.

I certainly feel that learning a new language was fun, but as well as it opened the doors for people to communicate with me. I think if somebody gets a chance to go to the area where they are not conversant in the local language, then it’s always good to learn because that is the best way to get closer to the people. My experience has showed me that it is easier for me to make more friends than any other member in our team, who all moved from another part of India to southern part of India.

The instrumental factor behind my success as a worker as well as a person,  was my eagerness to learn a new language. I felt that by getting to know more about the language my confidence to stay over there grew very high. And, as I talked to the people in their language, so they were more eager to talk to me and also they were more willing to help me. So, learning the language was a factor for success in my stay over there.
