IELTS Speaking Introduction Questions

In IELTS speaking exam the whole exam is divided in to three parts and the test is for 11-15 minutes. 

The pattern of test consistes of : 

  1. Part-1 : Introductory questions 
  2. Part-2 : Cue Card 
  3. Part-3 : Follow up questions somehow connected to part 2 

This article will discuss the part-1 of IELTS speaking test for helping students who aim for 3-6 bands. The candidates aspiring for 3-6 bands , find themselves confused when answering these questions. They are not sure about,  

  1. How to start the answer? 
  2. What to say in the answer? 
  3. How much to speak in the answer ? 

The answer to these three questions are given below, 

  • How to start the answer?  

Try to start the answer by taking starting line from the question itself. 

Use the same tense (Past , Present, Future) 

  • What to say in the answer? 

Always include simple answers . Do not try to include anything complicated to say. 

  • How much to speak in the answer ? 

Always say about 3-4 sentences in the answers.

Tell something about yourself.

Do you work or study ?  

  • Currently, I am working as (job position ) in (company name). 
  • My job duties are to (duty-1, duty-2, duty-3 ) 
  • I really like my work because it is very interesting. 
  • Also, my employer is a very good person. 

 

Do you like to travel ?  

  • Yes, I like to travel. 
  • I mostly travel to hilly areas because I like cold weather and clean air. 
  • I have seen many hill stations in my country. 
  • This year I plan to go to ( place of choice ). 

 

 Do you like to travel alone or with someone ?  

  • I like to travel with my family because I enjoy whenever I am with my family. 
  • We alyaws go for travelling together and take many pictures. 
  • I love to see different places with my family so that our bonding becomes strong. 
  • I like to try different foods at new places with my family 

 

What do you do in your free time ?  

  • In my free time, I watch TV and listen to music. 
  • I listen to Punjabi music and watch action movies. 
  • I listen to dance music on you tube on my phone. 
  • If, I like the song then I download it on my phone. 
  • My favorite singer is (singer name). 

 

Why is he/she your favorite singer?  

  • He/She is my favorite singer because his/her voice is very good. 
  • He/She sings many different types of songs, like romantic, sad, dance songs. 
  • He/She is very famous singer in my country. 
  • My favorite song is (song name). 
  • This song is about  (song topic). 

 

Why that is your favorite movie?  

  • My favorite movie is Golmal because it is a very good comedy movie and I like comedy movies. 
  • In this movie there are 4 friends. 
  • They live in a old blind couple’s house. 
  • They save the old couple from bad people. 
  • The story of movie is very funny, that is why I like it. 

 

Do you use phones?  

  • Yes, I use phone. 
  • I use a iphone / samsung phone. 
  • I use phone to call my family in India. 
  • I also use a phone to use apps like watsapp, facebook and others. 

 

What do you do on facebook? 

  • I use facebook to see pictures of my friends and family. 
  • I also use facebook to contact my old friends and new people. 
  • I read news on facebook. 
  • I buy things from people on facebook . 

 

Do you drive a car ? 

  • No, I do not drive a car. 
  • Because, I do not have a license. 
  • I am taking classes to learn car. 
  • I will get license next month.

Introduction Question Tips 

  • Speak 3-4 line answers for each question. 
  • There are no wrong answers. 
  • Do not speak very fast. 
  • Use same tense as question. 
  • Do not give yes / no answers.
