IELTS Academic writing percentage of the population in four Asian countries

The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040.

Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The given graphical representation illustrates the statistics of people residing in four urban areas in different countries of Asia during the years of 1970 to 2020 along with the projections of 2030 and 2040. The data is given in percentage.

Starting with the numbers that have been recorded till 2020, in 1970, Indonesia ‘s population was approximately 12% while Thailand ‘s population was around 18%. In the same year, Philippines had 30% people living there, however Malaysia had 30%. These numbers gradually grew in the coming years as in 1990, the population of Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Philippines was around 21% 30% 45% and 49% After this, the trend of growth remained the same for Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia as they kept growing, however this trend fluctuated for Philippines. Philippines’ population dropped to 40% by 2010 and again increased to around 41% by 2020 while all of other countries saw an increase in their population with Indonesia reaching at 50%, Thailand at 30% and Malaysia reaching at somewhat more than 70% by 2020.

Considering the projections for future, it is expected that all the four countries will grow in population by 2040. Indonesia is expected to reach 60% , Thailand at around 45%, Philippines at around 51% and Malaysia at around 80%

To summarize, Indonesia Thailand and Malaysia have seen continuous growth in the count of their people and will continue to see the same trend in future also with Malaysia having the maximum growth rate. Additionally, Philippines will also see a growth with minor fluctuations but its growth rate is the minimum.
